In the summer of 2021, Skye Records
had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate on a digital research project,
looking into a dialogue between music, dance and the landscape of the Isle of
Skye.
The project was funded by Creative Scotland and featured contributions from
local dancer Molly Scott Danter, local artist Caroline Dear and musician Iain
Copeland.
The result was 3 short films.
The first film - Cuirm an Tir - loosely meaning, 'the call of the land', was one
creative result of the research. The music was created specifically for the film
by Skye Records in collaboration with
Adam Sutherland - fiddle
and
Winifred Brook-Young - singing and poetry.
This resulted in giving the film its title.

For the second film we decided to make a mini documentary on the making of Cuirm an Tir and the project in general, featuring footage of the project and interviews with Iain Copeland, Molly Scott Danter and Caroline Dear. You can watch that here.
We also made a third film of an improvisation of drumming and dance in Edinbane hall using a mask and 'small rope' woven imagery made by Caroline Dear. This was filmed in one go and was essentially an exploration of what may be possible using Caroline's amazing costumes and artwork and created a performance ambience with different styles of lighting.
