His recording credits include; the latest releases from Fribo and Malinky, the Jews Harp opener on Croft no 5’s ‘Talk of the Future’ album, the new solo album by Alasdair White of Battlefield Band and The Complete Songs of Robert Burns.
Recorded in Roag on the Isle of Skye at Skye Recording, the album is an energetic mix of traditional material together with tunes from some of the best pipe tune composers of today, many of which have never been previously recorded. Pipedown are Lee Moore (Highland pipes and smallpipes), Steve Reid (Acoustic Guitar), Axel Campbell (Mandolins) and Steve Fivey (Percussion).
The concept for his latest album, Rustic, came from a conversation with two Scottish based musicians Iain Copeland and Seumas MacLennan of `Peatbog Fairies` fame. Their idea was, instead of trying to bolt poetry onto some music, they would start with a blank canvas and create a unique environment where the poetry and music transpired simultaneously.
“It’s a particularly nice piano,” he says, “and perfect for one of the things I wanted to do with the album, which was really to capture that live sound and texture of the hammer hitting the string – and then all the different things that a piano can do with that basic mechanism.
