Big news! Smaller group with Zoltan, Malcolm, Gus and Iain have a gig at Glasgow Jazz Festival on the 23rd of June. We’ll give you more updates when we have them. Hopefully see you there!
Barátok – Hungarian for ‘Friends’ or ‘Kindred’ – a new collaboration between Hungarian Violinist Zoltan Lantos and Scottish musician Iain Copeland.
Barátok appeared at Cottiers Theatre on Wednesday 28th September. See below for a few videos from the gig.
Zoltan and Iain met originally whilst playing in a collaboration between Session A9 and world renowned percussionist Trilok Gurtu at Perth Theatre in 2008. During the development of the project they formed a musical friendship that has come to fruition, now 8 years later, to become Barátok.
The project also features the talents of guitarist Malcolm Macfarlane (Jamie Cullum, Barbara Thompson, Shakatak), pianist Chick Lyall (Rob Hall and Chick Lyall) and the fiery contribution of young traditional musicians Pablo Lafuente (Barluath, Josia and Pablo, Sketch) and Joe Armstrong (Dosca, Hup).
We’ve put together a small documentary of the goings on in September 2016 around the gig in Cottiers Theatre.
Have a look through the Barátok site for more detailed info on the players and the music they have been involved in.
